During the meeting, the President emphasized the need to take swift and immediate action for those affected by the "Ditva" cyclone within the Kandy District, and stressed the importance of concluding these relief operations promptly.

"Spiritual Values Development Program"

In conjunction with the Buddhist Era (B.E.) 2570 Vesak Full Moon Poya Day, a Seela-Bhavana (Precept observance and meditation) program was recently held at the Kandy District Secretariat Auditorium. This program was organized by the Kandy District Secretariat for all officers within the District Secretariat premises, including officers from the District Secretariat, the Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretariat, and the Regional Office of Buddhist Affairs, under the "Spiritual Values Development Program" initiative.

The morning session commenced with the administration of the Ashtanga Uposatha Seela (Eight Precepts) by the Venerable Hadaganave Wimaladhamma Thero of the Asgiri Maha Viharaya. Following this, the morning Dhamma sermon and the midday Buddha Pooja were conducted by the Venerable Aluthgama Pannyasara Thero. The meditation session was guided by the Venerable Rambukewela Ananda Thero of the Malwathu Maha Viharaya, and the evening Dhamma sermon was delivered by the Venerable Nikaweratiye Indrawimala Thero.

On May 24, 2026, the District Secretary of Kandy, Mr. Indhika Udawatta, inspected the construction of houses being built for the people of the Doluwa area whose homes were completely destroyed. This housing project is being carried out on lands provided to the local residents as part of the relief measures extended to those affected by Cyclone Ditva.

A Culture of Integrity – Clean Sri Lanka: Public Servants' Walk Successfully Held in Kandy!

Aiming to establish an exemplary public service free from corruption and fraud, a special public servants' walk—organized in alignment with the instructions and leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake—commenced today (28) at the Kandy District Secretariat premises.

This walk was organized to mark the day dedicated to promoting financial, digital, entrepreneurial, and technological integrity, under the "Culture of Integrity – Clean Sri Lanka" program.

Nearly 600 officials from various public institutions, including the Kandy District Secretariat, the Central Provincial Governor's Office, the Central Provincial Council, the Kandy Municipal Council, the Sri Lanka Army, and the Police, participated in the event.

The route took the walk along Yatinuwara Street, Kande Street, D.S. Senanayake Street, and Raja Street in Kandy.

National Oil Anointing Ceremony held at the Historic Natha Devale Premises 🇱🇰✨

The national 'Oil Anointing Ceremony,' a highly significant ritual in the Sinhala and Hindu New Year traditions, was held with great dignity this morning (15th) at the historic Natha Devale premises in Kandy.

Held under the patronage of His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, the ceremony took place amidst the chanting of Pirith by the Maha Sangha, led by the Anunayake Theros of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters of the Siam Nikaya.

Key Highlights of the Event: 🔹 Grand Procession: A traditional procession that accompanied the Maha Sangha from the Natha Devale to the Wael Bodhiya. 🔹 Auspicious Time: The national oil anointing ritual was performed at the auspicious time of 6:55 AM, following traditional blessings. 🔹 Elephants: A special cultural feature of the event was the oil anointing ceremony performed for the elephants of the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic).

The event, held at the invitation of the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, was attended by the Governor of the Central Province, Emeritus Professor S.B.S. Abayakoon, Deputy Ministers Dr. Prasanna Gunasena and Dr. Hansaka Wijayamuni, Kandy District Secretary Indika Udawatta, as well as various state officials and a large gathering of devotees.

Under the Gammaddaha Project, a book donation was presented today (05) to Wattegama Sri Siddhartha Vidyalaya by the Kandy District Secretary, Mr. Indika Udawatta.

Sponsorship for this book donation was provided by the Sri Lanka Book Publishers' Association.
